Gord has a diverse background spanning a wide range of disciplines.
He began his career as a research scientist — studying “the secret life of electrons”. Shortly after leaving the academic environment, he entered the world of technology, working initially in software engineering, and later as a senior consultant to industry and government on projects ranging from aerospace to artificial intelligence to environment.
Today, Gord’s focus is on "high performance" communication. He is known and respected for his skills in information design, and for his ability to bring information to people in ways that accelerate the learning process. Whether he’s introducing 8-year-olds to astronomy, teaching senior executives why their software projects go off track, or designing a web-based course on the modern forehand, he is equally in his element.
Gord’s passion for tennis began one summer in the late 80's when he immersed himself in learning to play the game. Within five months he was participating in international coaching conferences. Several years later he joined the coaching staff at the University of British Columbia. It was there that he first met Brett Hobden.
With his background in science, technology and education, Gord brings a fresh perspective to the study and teaching of the modern game. He is an accomplished pianist, world traveller, and speaks five languages: English, French, Spanish, Italian and German. He holds a Ph.D. in theoretical chemistry from McMaster University.
